Interesting thoughts. Methinks there is a balance in there somewhere. If the Democratic AND Republican parties can remember that the Lord is first, liberty is second, and helping the poor is mandatory commandment of our Lord -then perhaps there will be that balance that is needed. I just hate that when it comes to balancing budgets - that tends to happen on the backs of those who need help the most. How's about cutting the salaries of our elected officials a bit? How about cutting school subsidies until they use the funds on teachers and students instead of new sports tracks or gyms or whatever else they can think of other than real education? Just some thoughts...
I recall elements of your personal story and understand somewhat how uncomfortable generalizations about government beneficiaries can be. I do not listen to Rush's every radio program by a longshot, but I have listened long enough that he is very caring toward those in need. Early in the last presidential election campaign, Democrat candidates were giving their usual pitch for more emotion-driven government spending. At one stop, a young college co-ed sobbed to Jonathan Edwards about her financial hardships. Of course, Mr. Edwards, et al, used that opportunity to gush from their platform why the American taxpayers should shell out more bucks for college education programs. Except for using the co-ed's plight in their unending speeches, they lifted no finger to assist. Months later, Rush revealed that he had his staff find out who the co-ed was. He personally funded her college education with the provision that she apply herself to her studies (which a college student should be doing anyway, right?). As the Good Book says: who is her neighbor? I'll address this further in future posts and look forward to further discussion. Thanks!
